I tolerate a bit of moss on my brick steps, but recently the number of weeds has become a bit excessive:
For situations like this I find a weeding knife invaluable. Where there is sufficient room the end can be inserted into cracks between bricks and hook weeds up by their roots. Where the gaps are too narrow for this the sharp blades sever weeds at the point where they start to emerge:
A quick brush down with a stiff yard broom and the steps are looking great:
